Hi ya all, Haley Shepard pulled into Victoria this evening, completing her solo-circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. She is one of the first women to do this on her own. Dave Kruger had bumped into her in the Deer Group a few weeks ago, and had sent a note to Paddlewise about meeting this delightful young lady, so I thought I'd let the list know of her successfull finish. She had just been married before setting off, so her husband was mighty glad to see her on the dock, and stated "Wow, she made it in one piece!" I was out surfing offshore waves in Juan De Fuca after work, trying to race the local ferries back in, so I was a bit late for her reception, but their was lots of Champaign left. It was blowing a gale all day and Haley had a heck of a time completing the last day of her trip. She said she had to lean into the wind at a 75 degree angle to keep from going over. She is quite a gal!!!
