Let me say that you can surely find rope that is not to be trusted, however, if you choose quality rope, that is by far the better way to go. The property in the bungie material that makes it nice and stretchy doesn't stand up too well to smog and sunlight. Of course if you always drive at night in the most pristine of environments then ignore this advice. BTW years ago, I used to secure a canoe on my vehicle with a combination of ropes with bungies at the ends to keep it all tight. It wasn't long before the bungies (thick ones at that) lost a lot of their stretch and were visibly stiffer. I was lucky, never had an incident. But, knowing what I know now, I will never do it again. Ok, enough preaching....let's get back to complaining about Yakima...
