This is addressed to my "Advisory Committees," however, we may need assistance from anyone living in the Orlando area, so I will bring paddlewisers up to date (briefly): In addition to storing M's boat and lending him a surf ski for the race, Chuck Davis of Waterways Kayak in Hollywood, Florida, (check out www.paddling.com) has offered to lend Maligiaq an apartment he has over his shop (on the Intracoastal Waterway), has young employees to provide practical and social assistance (Hollywood Beach is nearby), has an instructor who is familiar with rolling and will narrate at the race, will host a cook-out on Friday night, and is considering closing his business on the Saturday (9/18) and all going down to the race. Chuck's support is overwhelming. NOW... I just spoke with Mrs. Heath. Good news and bad news. They are able to book M. through Hollywood; however, he would leave Texas on the 14th and have to stay in Orlando overnight of the 15th (NOT A GOOD IDEA), arriving in Hollywood on the 16th (we have an evening event planned). Greg Stamer (who lives north of Orlando) will be on vacation, not sure of his exact dates; M has a lot of luggage, it involves cab fares, motel accommocation, strange location/young foreigner/additional costs. I DO NOT LIKE THIS. Costs: Amtrak was particularly unhelpful. First they said it would be an additional $36 which the Heaths can handle. Then they said, however, if we sell many tickets it could be as much as $100 or $180 more!!! Bottom line: we need to act quickly. WHO CAN COME UP WITH A BRILLIANT IDEA? My question to paddlewisers is: If we are unable to book Maligiaq through on the 15th, is there anyone in the area who would be willing and able (if Greg Stamer is not back from vacation) to pick him up (train arrives at approx 3:30p.m. on 9/15) and put him on the train the next day (don't know time).
