Back from Nova Scotia and getting caught up.

Thought I might pass this on for those interested in paddling in Nova
Scotia. I paddled the south shore area between Halifax and Yarmouth.

Not many outfitters and not so good a selection of kayaks as in other areas.
If you have a strong preference for a particular boat you might want to call
first or take your own.

Foreigners have bought up huge amounts of waterfront. No Trespassing signs
dot the shoreline as a result. The locals say they never objected to none
intrusive use of the shoreline (the ones I talked to anyway) so camping can
pose a problem even on some "uninhabited" islands.

Great weather but fog can cause problems and one needs caution on bay
crossings.

Small fishing villages everywhere so lots of shelter when needed. I think
with some careful planning one might even paddle from B&B to B&B. The Bed
and Breakfast business has grown considerably in the past ten years.

Did not enjoy the touristy areas of Lunenburg, Mahone Bay etc. Further west
things really got nice. No PWC's or overpowered boats. A goodly number of
cruising sailors who freely give advice on conditions etc. and seem
intrigued by kayakers.

Cheers,
John Winters
