I find it rather amazing that a store would not let you try a kayak before buying. If they are concerned with scratches/nicks then they should have demo boats available. That is the cost of doing business. If a store won't let you try out the kayak, go somewhere that will. Second, a few minutes in a boat is not sufficient to truely get the feel of the boat. You need to spend some real time in the boat and in some different conditions. Take the time to reseach your investment.
