The wheels are 12" plastic spoked with pneumatic tires with tubes. The hub is 1/2" ball bearing, the knockout type that are used on many garden tractor wheels. The bearings are replaceable. The wheels are the largest that will fit my hatches, my whole carts is take apart and is fits my rear hatch. The cart works great and climbs over roots and rocks as well as mud. I dont know about sand yet. I have about $20 invested. Larry C.
