Since one of my other passions is flyfishing (I have more flyrods than I have
boats:  8 of them) I know this one.  A midge is a common name for a class
of insects.   The most common is the diptera.  They have very thin bodies 
and small wings.  They're most often imitated when flyfishing in their pupa
stage and are one of the easiest flies to tie.   Wrap some thin copper wire
down the shank of a hook and then tie on a strand of peacock feather for
the head.   Some say that trout feed on midges more than anything because
they're found in the water all year long.
