Hello,

I just subscribed to the GASP and Paddlewise email lists. I had heard that
there was going to be a kayak shark fishing competition(for the largest
shark landed)in La Jolla Cove(San Diego), California. Has this contest
already taken place? I am against such a "kill" competition. My perspective
on shark conservation is presented in the shark finning article which I had
recently co-written for the August issue of "Discover Diving" Magazine(the
Web link for this article is included below).

Lastly, to anyone kayaking in La Jolla Cove, please know that there have
been several larger white shark sitings of late(most likely due to the
increased pinniped population in La Jolla Cove). Of course the risk of shark
attack is rare, but I felt it my obligation to let you know anyway.

The following is the Web Link to the Shark Finning Article (that I had
co-written) in the August Issue of "Discover Diving" Magazine
(photographs included, so it may take some time to load!):

The upcoming "The Aquanauts" series (which was shot at various venues around
the world) debuts on Discovery's "Animal Planet"
channel on September 27th, 1999 (at 7:30 PM throughout the USA).
"Aquanauts" will air overseas as well.

Hello folks,

Please disregard the above message. Mr. Morris is the "Tim Ingram" of
another list regarding shark conservation on which he and I have had an
unpleasant dialogue. He has managed to find the two lists that I maintain
and has just subcribed to them both only to post the above ridiculous
message.

My apologies that you folks got dragged into this. 8-}

Cheers,

Jackie (kayak shark fishing competition indeed... hoo boy &-)
