I have a Seaward Tyee. For the most part I am pleased with it. It
tracks very well, has good capacity, a large cockpit for my big feet,
an attractive line, good primary and secondary stability, and nice
construction details. I think it is about average or a little slower
than most boats, but not overly so. My only complaint is with the
seat. I found the original seat very uncomfortable and have
replaced it. Others find the seat to be OK. You'll have to consider
it. I also had a problem with the local dealer, who would not let me
paddle the boat before buying. I ended up flying to Seattle and
trying boats in the Seattle area, and then ordering the boat through
a Poulsbo, Washington dealer and having it shipped to me. It
might be worth driving a few states away to try the boat (and seat)
first.

>From what I've heard there have been a number of complaints
about the seat and that Seaward is looking at some options for
changing it. A couple of the advantages of the current seat it
that it can be used as a backup for a paddle float. The seat is
essentially a angled piece of closed cell foam (not mini-cell)
inside a cloth "bag" with a velcro closure and a quick snap to
attach it to the backbrace and hull. The foam could very easily
be replaced with minicell foam that has been customized to
fit your uniquely shaped butt, no matter how retentive it might be.
