Kauai is a jewel, no doubt about it. I paddled part of the Na Pali a year ago. Definitely a summer proposition though, as mentioned elsewhere. The winter surf is something to behold. Kayak Kauai supervise trips around the lee [south] side during winter. A nice day trip is from Lihue around past Poipu to the Koloa landing. BTW, if you can't get offshore to see Na Pali, try the uncrowded walking tracks from Kokee State Park. You get to see the incredible valleys from the heights. I did not walk the Kalalau Trail, muddy, overcrowded, all that tedious booking, and you don't get the views. There is also good paddling down the east side, around Kapaa, and north around Anini [ long sheltered inner-reef paddling].
