[Paddlewise] Veering off the lingo, paddlewise

then veer off the wind might be one way of describing it.  An
operational
description from my point of view:
Bow veers until it is pointing into the wind, like a weathervane.
If wrong, we will hear"

Thanks Mel, but you are too generous.  In sailing terminology turning
"off the wind" means strictly to turn your bow downwind.
