For those interisted in a quick, easy design for a small, out of the way paddle park: You know those ball and elastic doohickies that women tie their hair back with. Buy a set (the larger ones are a bit nicer though you may have to trim the holes so that they pull more from the bottom of the beads) and remove the elastic and replace it with 3/32nd bungie (best) or 1/8 inch bungie. Experiment on the length so that after you have tied the ends of the bungie together and tied the whole thing to your deck bungie, using a simple overhand knot, it fits over your paddle shaft with a bit of tension. It works great for holding your paddle when you want your hands free - and you don't have to mess with a paddle leash. It holds very securely yet a simple flick of the bead releases it. I've used them for years and never had any problem with them.
