My filter has a Silver compound cartridge in it for a final stage. It seems to work OK; at least I haven't been sick yet. I've forgotten the name of it, but there's a squeeze water bottle on the market that you can fill from the bottom through a prefilter, then the water is squoze through a finer filter whenever you drink from it. There's chamber in there into which you can introduce Iodine or some other sterilant.
