Just to make certain everyone has got this I repeat below cancellation notice of the 7.8 mile Hudson River swim from 23rd St up to the George Washington Bridge and its Little Red Lighthouse. So no need for kayak escorts. I think I will paddle part of the route tomorrow just to see what the effects actually will be in terms of floating debris and in terms of something else: Rainfalls in the area have ranged from 5 inches to 13 inches and will definitely swell the Hudson with runoff water. I am curious to see the effect the southward ebb flow on the river, bolstered by the increased runoff volume, will have on the northward flow of the ocean flood current. I expect that the ebb current on the river will hinder the flood current some in its strength and duration if not knock it out altogether. best, ralph diaz ------------------------------------- NOTICE FROM RACE ORGANIZERS: Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Floyd, State and City Authorities have asked the Foundation to cancel the Little Red Lighthouse swim scheduled for this Saturday, September 18. They could not guarantee swimmer safety, due in large part to the tremendous debris in river because of the Hurricane's heavy rains and winds. Further, they believe conditions will not improve well into the following week. Accordingly, the Foundation will not reschedule this swim.
