I am no expert in barometric science, but I gather from nautical reading
that you often get the dramatic pressure drops with really big scary
fronts.  I know that some of the fronts that pass through the Seattle
region ARE preceded by the kind of extreme pressure drop that you can
detect without instruments.  First you find yourself cursing at nice
people for no good reason.  Then you realise that there is a sort of
atmospheric weight pressing on your skull.  Then a front comes and it
rains until springtime.
