I use a Mountain Equipment Co-op Guide Tarp.  It's polyester rip-stop,
3 x 4 metre (10x12 ft or so) and has a stuff sack that is sewn directly
to the tarp.  The stuff sack is the right size to put a paddle blade into
so you can use your paddle as a support pole.  Reinforced grommets
etc.  C$85.  You can mail order it from MEC.  http://www.mec.ca/

There are similar tarps from US companies.
