Don Dimond writes: "I read on the internet news page that the EPA rated the new Honda Insight two seat automobile with getting 70 miles to the US gallon on the highway and 62 miles in the city. "I think I have obtained more miles to the gallon in my one seat sea kayak." Don is correct. On my 1996 self-contained 30-day circumnavigation of Lake Superior's shoreline (1136 miles, or 1828 km.), I used 100 ounces (2.95 liters) of stove fuel which averages out to about 1450 miles per gallon (620 km. per liter). Now if I only could figure out some way to commute to work by kayak, although I suspect my road bicycle is even more efficient. -Andy Knapp Minneapolis 37 F and heading down.
