[Paddlewise] Cold swim

Sunday night a man fell 20 to 30 feet from an ore boat into Lake
Superior and swam nearly five miles to shore in 46 degree water
without a PFD. Some of the factors in his survival: he is a good,
strong swimmer, he has a lot of mass (230 pounds), the heat
generated by his exertion apparently made up for that carried
away by the cold water, and the wind and waves were in his favor.

See http://www.pioneerplanet.com/news/mtc_docs/035950.htm for the
complete article.
