[Paddlewise] Deck/Hull seam

I have been lurking awhile and enjoying the wealth of information and trivia
which comes up in the list.


I have problems with a fibreglass boat joined at the deck/hull seam with a
vinyl "H" section extrusion, glassed over on the inside. The boat has front
and rear bulkhead compartments, and the front one leaks through the seam. It
is a small but chronic and annoying leak. 


I am now thinking of cutting out as much of the vinyl extrusion as possible
from the outside, filling the seam with chopped strand mat and polyester
resin, and applying gel-coat or flow coat over that. 


I wonder if anyone has had the same problem, and can offer tips and
suggestions.
