[Paddlewise] Who? Me?

a)NAME: Ari Saarto

b)CONTACT: asaarto_at_lpt.fi - I live in Helsinki, Finland but work in
Lahti, a little bit inlands from the capital.

c) BOATS: Nordkapp HSC my solo touring boat plus a Sea-Lady
double, a Finnish fiberglass loveboat. Both are painted in a similar
way: a beige deck with red cockpit and black hatches - I´ll surely
identify my boats if somebody tries to steal them..

d) BOAT NAME & CALL SIGN (IF RADIO OPERATOR) na

e) SPECIAL INTERESTS: well, what would you suppose? Sea
kayaking - I am really nuts. Among other things: reading, arts,
music, good food with brilliant company and excellent wine.
Jogging at the seaside.

f) SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE: lecturer of photography,
practiging photographer (art projects, no commercial assignments).

g) STRONG OPINIONS: yup, I have too much of them. That is the
reason I go to the sea - to cool off....

h) MOST INTERESTING TRIP: a full moon trip last summer (to be
added to the PaddleWise web-site) and a long solo trip to the
Russian border (and back) in ´98 (again, check PW web-site)

i) BIO: male, 38, sometimes frustrated at work with a really bad
attitude. I have been the Principal Lecturer of Photography at the
Lahti Institute of Design for 3 1/2 years and kayaked four years,
1000 kilometers (about 650 miles) during the last three of them.
Hmm...there must be a connection between these facts,
somewhere... I have been following the P´Wise list from it´s
beginning, do still write trip/expedition stories sometimes, though
I´ll have to admit I am mainly lurking now.

The double is for camping with my SO Rita, who is also a
practicing photographer. We enjoy pancakes, strong coffee and
silent peaceful mornings during the summer. We still have our
Special Camp Place under an ancient rowan tree in a unnamed
island at the Baltic Sea - hmm, not going to tell where...come and
see!

The single is for getting away, fast and far, if I get the attacks of
anxiety which do kepp haunting me during the week. No matter
what is the weather looking like. I do enjoy open wide space, which
is found at sea, silence after chattering people. Besides the
aesthetic values, kayaking is a real zen thing for me: spiritual
renewment. Recharging of the batteries.

Cheers,
Ari
