Well, it didn't really attack, but it could have. I was launching from my camp on Diana I. in the Deer Group (Barkley S.) last month when I saw a wake crossing my little inlet. It looked very much like cottonmouths I used to see in the swamps; just a little bump making a wake. Didn't figure. It swam about 20 meters and then hauled itself out onto the rocks. Cute little mink about 18" long. But don't be fooled by that cuteness... The evening before while I was watching the dying glow, one came loping along the log I was sitting on, as if he were coming for a visit. Saw me and turned tail. Must have had his mind on something else. I also saw a mamma back bear and two cubs from about 10 meters away (they ashore, be aboat) on the mainland. After about 5 minutes she started chuffing and they shambled off. Supercool. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
