Paddlewisers, Those who have an opinion regarding PFD's, please refer to page http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a991005c.html and click about half a page down where it says --- PROPOSED RULES Boating safety: Personal flotation devices; Federal requirements ... etc --- You can see it on txt or .pdf format. It is the official document from the Coast Guard where they ask people to send their comments regarding the use of PFD's. Please read the entire thing to ensure that your comments will not be out of context, as they are asking your input on specific items-- for whom and when it should be mandatory to *wear* PFD's all the time. This is your chance to be heard by the regulators before they paint everyone in the water in the same colour (1) and regulate accordingly. Close date is Apr 2000. cheers, - Julio (1) no flames here, please. Currently *all boaters* are required to *carry* one PFD per person. So we see kayakers wearing PFD's rescuing people who fall out of fishing boats leaving their PFD behind --those who need is the least wear it, and those who really need it keep it stored in a box somewhere on the deck. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
I couldn't find it at Julio's link, but I did find it at: http://frwebgate1.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/waisgate.cgi?WAISdocID=711227923+6+0+0&WAISaction=retrieve after a search.
