This is a response to Rich Dempsey's post about which
GPS to buy. I have used GPS units made by Eagle,
Magellan, and Garmin. I was happiest with the software
program that Garmin has. The program is very user
friendly. I look forward to the future when the U S
military stops slightly altering the signals.

Be sure to protect the GPS from humidity and water even
if it says it is waterproof. I put mine in a drybox that
has water absorbing packets inside.

I conserve the power of my GPS when on long paddles by
only turning it after every hour of paddling. Then by
using the GOTO button I can find out exactly how many
miles per hour I am paddling.
