I have a Yashica T4, and the Zeiss Tessar lens is extremely sharp and
has
excellent contrast. But it has a severe light falloff problem (which
means that
the image is not evenly illuminated, but rather is brighter in the
center than
in the corners). This is a very common problem with point-and-shoot
cameras.

I once had an Olympus XA that had the same problem. In the Boundary
Waters,
I shot the same scene with both the XA and my Nikonos. The light falloff

was very noticeable in the slides from from the XA, especially in the
sky
area of the slides. The Light falloff (and there is some with every
lens)
was not at all noticeable in the Nikonos slides. After seeing the
results,
I returned the XA to the dealer. I think the reason this is a problem
with
point-and-shoots is the short distance between the lens and the film; a
P&S camera with a retracting lens might not suffer the problem to the
same degree.
