Mike - You can come with us (Atlantic Sea Kayakers) anytime! We are a 2hour + crowd (generally). Most kayakers (in our group anyway) tend to be early risers, so even by taking a couple of hours in the morning, we can still be on the water by 9 or 10. If tide or weather are dictating shove-off times, generally we get up earlier rather than trying to change our packing patterns and messing up personal rhythms. If I am out on a multi-day trip, I am doing it for pure enjoyment not to see how fast I can get everything done. I am not about to skip breakfast and drink luke warm coffee that was brewed the night before! Not me! My tent is the last thing packed (into a drybag), it goes in the cockpit with me, and it is the first thing out when I arrive at the next site. That way, should there be a weather problem that requires shelter mid-day, one is available for the group to pile into if need be.
