The other Great Lakes here on the 'Prairie Coast' are also significant bodies of water, with many hundreds of miles of beaches - though maybe not with as consistent on-shore winds as you see on the 'Left Coast' (and minus the tides) Good natured chiding aside, I was also going to recommend "Waves and Beaches" as a must-read for *any* sea kayaker or surf paddler, but you beat me to it.
