> Anyone out there tried out the Avocet by Valley yet? Chris- I paddled the Avocet several times this past summer. I'd say it's a very good all round boat. It tracks reasonably well, turns well, and is comfortable in seas. The most conditions I had it in were 15-20 kt winds off the coast of Maine and it was fine. Depending on weight of paddler/load one may have to deploy a little bit of the skeg at times. Or just adjust your strokes somewhat. Valley hatchcovers and their way of constructing the bulkheads keeps most of the water out of the compartments. The poly that Valley uses seems to be a little more prone to scratching than some of the other plastic boats I've paddled. Seems like a good all round boat. Valley must like the design-I heard they were going to offer it in glass this year.
