Im another of those who has put a lot of thought into the choice between
tents and bivvys. Normally when we are out we share a big tent on 2 to 3
persons and end up sleeping under the sky.

I wanted a tent that didnt take up much packing space, was fast to set up,
and was "standing by itself" (cant get the right word here......).

In Scandinavia we have a bit different tent philosophy than you on the
other side of the puddle. We pitch our tents fly first, i.e the poles are
threaded through channels in the fly instead of through the inner tent,
this way the inner tent will always be protected from rain and snow during
setup.

I had almost made my mind up to buy an swedish design (Hilleberg Unna)
(www.hilleberg.se), when I saw the new for -99 Marmot Eclipse.

I bought the Marmot and is very satisfied with it. The inner tent is mostly
mesh so I can use it stargazing without having to bother with the mosquitos
and its really fast tp pitch it. The fly has a small transparent window so
you can check out the conditions outside before you exit the tent.

It is a 3-season tent and in my mind is to small anyway to use here
winterkayaking when you need more room and perhaps a friend in the same
tent to chat away the many dark hours.

Check it out at www.marmot.com
