Several p'wisers have asked me how my legal proceedings are going after that
hit and run that supposedly involved me as suspect #1.

First, On a paddling note, I cannot drive with any of my paddling buddies
anymore without hearing comments like "watch out for that car!" or "OOH, that
was close!" I bounced off a rock in the local river the other day and they all
started whooping "Hit and RUN!!" and "Hey Phil, you driving drunk again?"
Need I remind them that I have a flawless driving record? Sheesh. I can only
look forward to the big trip tomorrow...I paddle with a bunch of comedians...

I appreciate the interest and can say (quietly, to avoid a jinx) that I am
pretty sure that the police are off my case. After an hour of questioning me
downtown, the police recieved a fax from the jerk who fingered me as the one
who hit him. Seems this guy continued to drive around town and had picked out
close to twenty other vehicles that "could have done it". Basically I think he
shot his case in the foot.
When the police weighed the fact that I have 20 witnesses to my whereabouts on
that evening, and no damage on my pickup. They have since labeled me as a
nonstriking vehicle. BTW, the paint on the wreckage was brown, my truck is
tan. That guy scared the heck out of me for nothing. I was merely the first
person on a long list of guys that he pointed his finger at.

Hopefully it's all over - although, now I have to weather the buddy-abuse for
a while. I know I had it coming.

Thanks for asking,
Phil Huck

oh yeah, a quick tip when dealing with the law. I heard this in class, learned
firsthand... When police are questioning you, even mouth the word "lawyer" and
questions start to get real simple. It's great to have rights.
