My brother and I are getting ready for a four-day paddle around North
Carolina's Core Banks next week. Out intent is to paddle north from
Harker's Island to the Ocracoke Inlet and then west to Cedar Island. He
just bought two Fox 40 Minis,which register a whopping 115db on JimBob's
Aural Pain Scale. We'll experiment at length with this whistle --
considering such things as wind, surf, distance, etc. -- and get back to the
list. Certainly not to endorse this particular manufacturer, but to confirm
just how effective [or ineffective] a 115db whistle is.

BTW -- We will also be using two Princeton Tec Eco Flares [good post,
Ralph!] in addition to headlamps.
