I felt a bit weepy with Elaine's semi-farewell notice. As we all know,
keeping up with this list is almost a full-time job, so I understand why she
had to unsubscribe. I will miss her when she moves to Scotland - thank
goodness we'll be able to keep in touch via the Internet.

Just wanted to let you know that I keep her in mind and have already
forwarded a couple of things to her (she still counts as a "member" so I'm
not violating any copywright rules, am I? :) e.g. Ralph's comments on
Feathercraft deck fabric in the K-1 response and Jack's story on cold water
paddling. I'm very concerned about my friend who intends to go solo paddling
in her K-Light in that freezing water.

We (Elaine et al) went Urban Paddling yesterday. Just a half day paddle down
the Coral Gables Waterway, ooohing and aaaahing at the beautiful homes.

It was a lovely day so I only wore a bathing suit with my PFD (sorry, Jay G
who asked me to stop talking about balmy weather under penalty of being
flooded by P'wisers with cabin fever -- couldn't resist. At the lunch stop
place I managed to have a very brief swim - water was quite cool.

First we drove up toward the beautiful Biltmore Hotel (replica of the Giralda
Tower in Spain (Sevilla, I think). Marinell and I retreated (they have No
Trespassing signs on the bridges) as the golfers were hitting balls across
the water - managed to retrieve a couple from shallow water) and concussion
was not on my wish list for the day.
Needless to say, Elaine and the others just kept going.

We waited for them in goose country. Geese are not common here, but I swear
these were "guard geese." They hissed and came real close, then went and
chased some ducks that were resting under the bridge. This was right after
dog alley where every home seemed to have a barking dog.

Saw: anhinga, white heron, green heron, belted kingfisher, white ibis, moor
hens, and a little wader that looked like a dipper.

Pleasant, not strenuous, and I was feeling good. Alas, no Pavarotti.
