Here's a few books I liked that haven't been mentioned yet:

the lonely land by sigurd olson
about canoeing the old fur trade route in Saskatchawan.
canoeing wild rivers by cliff jacobson
about preparing for a north country canoe expedition/trip
bear encounter survival guide by james gary shelton
about the bears along the inside passage to alaska

I've been shopping online for a new fixed blade knife (3-4in blade) and I am
very impressed with the steel, the hardness, the thinness (60 & 80 mils),
and the price of two knifes made by ag russel http://www.agrussell.com/ the
deer hunter and the trout & bird knife. The Canadian Boat Knife by Grohmann
is also an interesting design (#3 dh russel by grohmann) and can be ordered
with a marlin spike AG Russell sells them, and they have their own webpage
at http://www.grohmannknives.com/
