Hello Paddle Wisers, When I go sea kayaking with members of our local club I am known as the one who sleeps in and pops out of the tent one hour before we launch. While I am taking down my tent I eat a cold breakfast between packing duties and like a lot of other paddle Wisers I packed and organized a good deal of my equipment the night before. When I sleep the night in a bivi bag the process can be cut down to a ready to paddle time of forty-five minutes. << * ditch the hot breaky and coffee!!! >> SUCH HERESY!!! No coffee in the morning! You MUST be kidding! What I've been doing (which I've mentioned before on this list) is carrying a stainless steel thermos with me on my trips. I will boil up enough coffee to fill the thermos the night before. Then in the morning I have hot coffee and a couple of Cliff bars and I'm on my way. The thermos can wait to be cleaned later that evening. No muss, no fuss :-) Scott So.Cal. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************

When I go out, I'm the one who has to be dragged from his tent kicking and screaming and then proceeds to make an extremely complicated breakfast. Then I need my morning staring off into the distance time. Oh, and did I mention wander the beach looking for berries for breakfast time? Or the play around with the maps time? -Patrick *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
Mike - You can come with us (Atlantic Sea Kayakers) anytime! We are a 2hour + crowd (generally). Most kayakers (in our group anyway) tend to be early risers, so even by taking a couple of hours in the morning, we can still be on the water by 9 or 10. If tide or weather are dictating shove-off times, generally we get up earlier rather than trying to change our packing patterns and messing up personal rhythms. If I am out on a multi-day trip, I am doing it for pure enjoyment not to see how fast I can get everything done. I am not about to skip breakfast and drink luke warm coffee that was brewed the night before! Not me! My tent is the last thing packed (into a drybag), it goes in the cockpit with me, and it is the first thing out when I arrive at the next site. That way, should there be a weather problem that requires shelter mid-day, one is available for the group to pile into if need be.
