I built a Pygmy Coho last winter using System Three epoxy. The epoxy didn't give off any noticeable fumes at all when it was applied or when it was curing. It is important that you don't let the uncured epoxy come in contact with your skin to avoid potential allergic reactions. This was explained clearly in System Three instructions. Just wear latex gloves from the drugstore (about $5.00 for 25 pair) and you won't have any problems. U built a 'tent' out of plastic dropclothes around the boatbuilding table I built to contain sanding dust and it did a very good job of minimizing dust all over the place. I'd strongly recommend a respirator (about $30 from Home Depot, etc.) and a Tyvek sanding suit (about $10 -20 from Home Depot) and safety glasses. No sense taking a risk of getting any potentially harmful dust all over you. Varnishing definitely gives off some fumes, and if possible you may want to move your operation outside or to a open garage with a fan for this phase. Again, use the respirator and you're safe from the fumes. Good luck with your boat! *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
When you get the kit or product it should have a Material Data Safety Sheet with it explaining all the hazards. If it doesn't one can be obtained from http://msds.pdc.cornell.edu/issearch/msdssrch.htm or other sources.
