I'm not a no-rudder keen bean. My current boat is a plastic skerray. I prefer the simplicity of no rudder, but for some paddling think they are worthwhile (I know, I know, I know, I know why this is not the view of some). I plan to buy a bigger, fibreglass, straight line trip boat with a rudder next year. I want to do some long touring trips with open crossings in the next few years, this is something I've not had a chance to do so far due to some chronic injury (now receding) and a PhD thesis. I'll keep the robust and manouverable skerray for day trips, surf, gauntlets etc.
