A little advice from a (relatively) newlywed with a new house: have the
priest insert a little comment in the vows about "loving and cherishing
you Joe Brzoza and your kayaks" ;) Also make sure you get a house with
a garage large enough to build boats. Or, a basement with good outside
access. I bought a nice garage with a decent house, but the garage is
18' wide by 24' long. Unfortunately, there is a large beam across the
middle, so I can't hang boats the long way. That means no boats longer
than about 17'6" unless they live outside. I also have a full
unfinished basement with absolutely no outside access, so that cuts down
my winter building possibilities.

It's probably easier to find a nice garage with a fixer-upper house and
make the house livable, than to get a beautiful house with a so-so
garage and try to make the garage "buildable"! The garage just doesn't
carry the same priority after the purchase that the living space gets.

I'm getting ready to build one of Nick Schade's Guillemots this winter.

Reminds me of the time back in college when I was living in a
fraternity. I told my friends to wake me up to go skiing with them. I
woke up at noon. They came home at 5:00pm and said, "Hey, Baker, you
should have come, there was 51 inches of powder!" Bastards. :)

It's also a lot easier to marry a paddler than to marry a non-paddler,
and try to convince her that paddling is great! Congratulations on your
upcoming marriage.
