Am I the only one suffering from "scroll to the right forever"?

Granted, I have to run a very old version of Netscape(2.2), but this has
gotten worse and worse lately. I tried upgrading to 4.8??(3 hr 27min
download), but my hard drive NEVER stops working when I try using it. "I
know, not enough mem".

So, is it the settings on others software that cause me to scroll or is
it my software?

I only ask because it has gotten worse and no one else has mentioned it.

Thanks.

James

Is it safe to assume that, since you're low on ram and you're using an old
browswer that the bulk of your online time is spent with e-mail? If so, I
would suggest (recommend?) that you switch to a dedicated e-mail
application, rather than using netscapes mail program. You'll find the
whole process (from uploading your mail to composing, to sending) faster
and more user-friendly... plus you eliminate that annoying no line break
crap that only ever seems to happen in browser email software. So... that
said, my personal recommendation for email dedicated software is Eudora
Lite and you can d'l it free, here:

.lst.titledetail

ps: oh.. and it's a much smaller app than Netscape, so it will download
much faster for ya. :)

No, I really spend very little time with e-mail. Infact I pay for my
service(time)so spend little time on line except to look up information.
While I'm online and just before I hang up, I hit the "get mail" icon.
Sending answers only take 5-10 secs, so that's no problem.

I'll upgrade one of these days and have the latest "again" for a few
moments. :-)

I'm only on the internet to see if I like it anyway(taking me longer to
decide than I figured).

Thanks for all the tips, suggestions, and all, both direct and on list.

James, been lost sence giving up GW Basic

It's caused because your software isn't recognizing the "line feed"
characters embedded in email messages. You may want to try one of the
freeware/shareware dedicated email packages that are widely available. Both
of the "BIG TWO" browsers are notorious resource pigs and if your primary
usage is email you'll likely be fine using a dedicated email program.
Eudora is probably one of the most widely used "free" email packages - and
I'd put money (my $.02 <g>) on it that it takes care of your line feed
problem also. (If I'm wrong you're more than welcome to come up here to
Juneau to collect - I'll even take you out for a paddle)

I am running Netscape 4.5, and fixed this problem by adjusting a preferences
setting. Go to Preferences>Messages>Message Wrapping>and check "Wrap to window
width". This is the path to follow in 4.5, and though I know this preference
setting exists for older versions, I am not sure if you can access it the same
way. I would just try looking for verbage that sounds familiar in your
preferences settings - it might be called "wrap long lines". Good luck!!

Other people have mentioned changing the line wrapping attributes but I
would also high recommend upgrading Netscape 2.2 to version 3.01. That
version is pretty stable and the difference in resource requirements are
not nearly as great as the upgrade from 3.x for 4.x. Version 2.2 has
limited javascript support, while 3.01 is much more complete.

In most older versions of Netscape you can click on View,
then check Wrap Long Lines. Some versions, you have to do
this each time that you start the program and it lasts for
that session only.
