Someone in RBP asserted that kevlar boats absorb water and gain weight over time. After some research, I found a website that aserted that both kevlar and epoxy resin are hygroscopic and require careful preparation in laying up. I know sailors put epoxy on their bottoms to seal them against water absorbtion and blisters. Has the RBP poster jumped to an erroneous conclusion or will a properly made kevlar boat actually absorb water and gain weight? *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Mon Dec 06 1999 - 04:30:47 PST
