Paddlewisers, There has been a loop about some people not liking the X rescue, which I mentioned that I was practicing. Regardless of whether or not a kayaker likes a particular rescue, he or she should practice it anyway. When I practice rescues, I like to practice them all. The more rescues you have in your bag of tricks the better. You never know when that rescue you don't like can come in handy. Personally, I like the X rescue to perform quickly between sets in the surf. Between a set I can have a boat dumped, the paddler back in the boat, and his or her spray skirt back on. If a wave comes, just push the boat off of you and away (not between you and the wave) before the wave hits you. Sure, it's risky, but it is usually very effective.
