My favourite topic! I have only recently cured the leaking deck/hull seam on
my boat, which has a vinyl "H" section extrusion, the edge of the deck in the
top of the H and the hull in the bottom, and the extrusion covered on the
inside of the boat with a wide strip of chopped strand mat and polyester
resin. The repair involved re-covering the inside of the seam with 2 layers of
75mm/3" tape and epoxy resin.

IMHO, the vinyl H extrusion seam is an inferior method of joining the deck to
the hull. I notice that Current Designs offers to cover the outside of the
seam with glass for an extra $150. This should be done in the first place. I
would not buy any boat that uses the vinyl extrusion method to join deck to
hull.

BTW, thanks to those who posted suggestions for fixing this problem. Getting
rid of leaks in my boat also involved changing the rubber O ring on the
Henderson TCL/4 hatch cover for a flat rubber washer. Leak testing is easiest
by filling each compartment or cockpit with water and watching for drips. I
also tried an air pressure system, blowing air from a spa heater unit into the
boat and finding leaks by running a thick detergent/water mix over the suspect
area and watching for bubbles. I wonder how many new boats would be totally
watertight?

Regards,

PT
