Chris Duff was scheduled to leave Waimairi Beach, Christchurch at 8.00 a.m., Monday, 20 December for the start of his next section of his solo circumnavigation of the South Island of New Zealand. There was a photograph on the front page of this morning's paper, (Monday's, haven't seen it myself) but I expect it was taken by one of our top sea kayakers, a photographer for the "Press", John Kirk-Anderson. Chris, if successfull, will be the second to do a solo circumnavigation, after Brian Roberts from Colorado, who was working in this country for a couple of years. Two others I know of who have paddled all the coast - Paul Caffyn first and Bevan Walker who did it in sections over a year or so as time permited. There have been a couple of Japanese attempts which have failed. .
