RE: David Burch's excellent "Fundamentals of Kayak Navigation" - my experience has been the same as Steve Cramer's. It's an excellent book jammed with information on just about every aspect of navigation, specifically as those aspects apply to paddling a kayak. I've read it three times. I keep a copy open and dip into it occasionally for an informal fourth read. At this point I probably know about 15% of what's in there, and not much more will pack into this aging brain. That 15% has been enough to let me get from here to there many times, safely. I think this book is just about as essential as a paddle or a PFD for those of us who are in the learning stages of kayak tripping.
