[Paddlewise] Durability

The story I've heard on Brit-built boats and weight and durability is apocryphal, but, considering the source, I'm definitely inclined to believe it. Can only address Valley Canoe Product boats, but apparently each VCP boat is built by an individual subcontractor, whether stock or to spec; these individual builders are given shed space and work with VCP molds, but they're essentially freelance. The rationale is that, as individuals, these subs are not subject to the same environmental controls and restrictions as a commercial operation would be, and operate outside of the rules which would otherwise require vacuum bagging in the UK. Hence, our beautiful, indestructible "British Heavies"! Built to surf, to rock garden and to "expedition" in, but just a tad on the heavy side, especially when being re-racked at the end of a long paddle.
