RE: [Paddlewise] Doug Lloyd - recent apology

Personally I look forward to each of Doug's postings. Here's a guy who has
taken his sport to the extreme, yet he still writes with humility so that we
can all gain from his wisdom, rather than just see him for his bravado. How
many other "extreme" sports jocks do you know are willing to share their
knowledge so openly with those of all abilities?

Yeah so Doug sometimes writes about some scary stuff. When I turn the TV I
can see someone jumping out of an airplane or going around a race track at
200 MPH. I can open up Outside magazine and read about someone doing free
dives to killer depths with nothing but a lung-full of air and a weighted
sled, or maybe climbing to the highest points of the globe without
supplemental oxygen. Does that make me run out there and put myself at
harm? Come on! I can tell an experienced athlete from the average guy off
the street.

I'm on this list so that I can learn from others who are more experienced
than myself. I wouldn't be here if all I was reading was a bunch of
censored, dumbed-down, boring posts. This list is great because you can
read about ALL aspects of paddling, from the most benign to the most
extreme.

I hope that all this "back channel" stuff doesn't cause Doug or anyone else
not to post their stories, or censor their writings because they're afraid
of "putting ideas" into some newbie's head or being flamed by other
listmembers. That would be a terrible shame.
