I've living here for 7 years.  Tarutao is one of my favorite places to
paddle.  Well, Tarutao and the islands northwest of Tarutao, namely, Ko
Adang.  You can take a ferry from Pak Bura to Tarutao.  You can also take a
ferry out to Ko Adang, Ko Rawi, and Ko Lipe.  These are a group of islands
that feature crystal clear water, great marinelife, primary jungle, and
granite boulder strewn white sandy beaches.  There are National Park
bungalows on Ko Adang and there are private bungalows on Ko Lipe.  Sea
gypsies live on Ko Lipe also.

If you're a bird nerd like me, you'll really enjoy Tarutao.  Hornbills are
common, Lesser Ratche-tailed Drongos (black birds with two long tail
feathers that have a bare shaft 90% of the way down and two feathers at the
end - really cool to watch flying), Crab-eating Macaque monkeys, monitor
lizards, a wide variety of kingfishers, and lots more.

There's a park on Tarutao that's on a tidal river mouth.  You can stay in
bungalows there or camp.  The tidal river is really nice.  There are dozens
of branches to explore.

The Similans and Surin aren't as good for paddling as they are for diving.
In other words, the scenery above the water isn't as special as the scenery
below.

assistance you might need.  Even though I'm in the commercial paddling
business here, I don't mind helping independent paddler at all.  I've
recently helped a couple of other Paddlewisers with their itineraries in
Phang Nga.
