Hi all,

Kia Ora,

Back again after an absence of travel and play, and thanks Jackie for your
help in this matter.
Now to the point.
The fastest sail boats like the Whitbread round the world yacht race, keep
the boats as light as possible and as strong as possible seeing they travel
through the roughest of oceans in the world.
This has been made possible by moderne materials,e.g. kevlar and strong
flexable resins.
I was talking to a kayak builder from Cape Cod who builds Baidarkas
around 29 lbw and even 25 lbw ,he lost one of his vehicle driving at speed
and not a scratch on the boat..
Here in NZ we prefer (but can't always afford) the lightweight kevlar boats
around the 18 to 22 kg..And I find that after a long trip on my own even
that gets heavy to lift on the car.

Being light and not strong, don't have to go together.

Eddie.
City of Sails.
NZ.
