Take it from experience! Even a bright yellow boat can get hit mid ship by a not so careful boater in broad day light. I was lucky he was moving slowly. A hat is a great idea and I recommend you carry an air horn and if possible a VHF Radio! Don't hesitate to use the horn and as a last resort if you are really concerned hail them on the radio. Be judicious with the radio. My wife gets excited and every boat that is even moving in our general direction worries her. I have also placed SOLAS Reflective tape on the Bow, Stern and Middle of both sides which seems to have helped even in daylight. Always be careful. You don't have to be in a high traffic area to have a problem!
