This reminds me the old debate. Does new gear encourage a false sense of
security and over confidence or make for better kayaker's? Kayaking is one
person in a kayak under his own power taking on the wind, currents and waves.
Not fundamentally different from ten years ago or a thousand! The basics are
what count, the paddler, a boat and a paddle, be it a native skin boat or a
fiberglass boat without rudder or sail.

Next thing you will be telling us about the good olds when you trudged though
four foot snow drifts to get to that one room school house :)
