Bob,

You may want to consider plastic for the kayak you want to beat the crap out
of.

By the way, I recently went to a slide show put on by Roger Schumann and Jan
Shriner, who are well known, respected and experienced sea kayakers and
instructors. The slide show was at Southwind Kayak Center in Southern
California. During the slide show, Roger and Jan emphasized leaning advanced
sea kayaking skills to enjoy the rock gardens and sea caves along the Central
California coast. Jan recommended plastic sea kayaks for this type of
paddling, because the fiberglass kayaks get damaged. Most of the slides
showed them in plastic kayaks, especially when they were around the rocks and
caves. They were doing the slide show on their way to Baja, and I couldn't
help but notice the plastic kayaks on their car in the parking lot. I also
noticed in the slides of Roger that he was using an unfeathered paddle.

Take it for what it is worth!

Roll or drown, and if you should drown,
may your remains be scuttled with you kayak!
