I also paddled with someone with the same set up. This day trip was not in any type of heavy seas (breaking waves over the spray deck). I questioned the paddler if he had any problems with water infiltration in heavy seas he stated he had very little water seepage through the port. I also questioned the possibility of the flap being opened by the force of water/ waves. He stated that never happened. I can see the benefit of the port for use of the hand pump. I am still not at ease in my mind that system really worked, re; water infiltration when the flap is closed and the force of the water opening the flap. Curious to see if anyone else on PW has more of a expert opinion on this subject.
